Dr. Kiran has been American Board of Vascular Medicine certified in Endovascular Medicine and has been practicing in this field for close to twenty years.
The field of Endovascular Medicine has seen tremendous growth and changes in these times and has contributed to good patient outcomes in a number of clinical conditions. Endovascular Medicine has obviated the need for open surgery in many conditions thus resulting in increased patient comfort, reduced morbidity and reduced hospital stay. Endovascular interventions are especially helpful in the treatment of patients with critical limb ischemia with non healing wounds of the legs and/or gangrene. Such patients, especially diabetics have severe vascular disease involving distal arteries, below the knee level and below the ankle level. Interventions on these vessels may require accessing the lesions by integrate or retrograde approaches and specialized tools. Ability to open these occluded arteries makes much of the difference in saving the leg from major amputation. Goal of these treatments is to preserve the ability to ambulate as well as reduce mortality because major amputations can be life threatening in a significant number of cases.
Endovascular interventions are also practiced in various other vascular beds and conditions including Carotid and Vertebral arteries, Subclavian arteries, Aorta, Visceral arteries including mesenteric and renal arteries, Iliofemoral arteries, Popliteal, tibial and pedal arteries. Endovascular interventions include angioplasty, stent placement, stent-grafting, embolization procedures, catheter directed thrombolysis etc.
